Hardcore Computer is a proprietary technology company using patented liquid submersion cooling technology to efficiently remove heat from computer hardware, the main limiter of electronics performance, in order to design and manufacture top-tier, high performance computer systems. Prior to serving as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Hardcore Computer, Mr. Berning was Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board of Pemstar since the founding of the company in 1994.  In August 2000, Mr. Berning led the IPO of PEMSTAR on NASDAQ.  PEMSTAR provided a comprehensive range of engineering, product design, manufacturing and fulfillment services to customers on a global basis through a total of 10 facilities strategically located in North America, Asia and Europe.  PEMSTAR supported companies with world-class service in the Industrial Equipment, Medical, Communications, Computing and Data Storage markets.  PEMSTAR’s customers include; Applied Materials, Boston Scientific, Fluke, Hitachi, Honeywell, IBM and many others.  PEMSTAR’s FY06 revenue was $871M.  In January of 2007, PEMSTAR merged with Benchmark Electronics.

Prior to founding Pemstar, IBM employed Mr. Berning for fifteen years, where he held numerous engineering and management positions in process engineering, cost engineering, supply chain management and operations, including most recently as Operations Manager for IBM’s Rochester Storage Systems facility.  While at IBM, Mr. Berning led  supply chain/operations teams that provided support for several key product launches, including the AS/400, the first RAID storage system and the first MR head disk drive.

Mr. Berning received a B.S. Industrial Engineering and an M.B.A. from St. Cloud State University.  In 2005 he was selected by Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty to serve on the Rochester Higher Education Development Committee.  He served as board member and past chair of the Greater Rochester Area University Center.  He was Chair of the 2007 and 2008 March of Dimes Rochester WalkAmerica.  He has served on the Olmsted County United Way Campaign Cabinet and Board and was Chair of the 2007 Olmsted County United Way Campaign. Mr. Berning is currently serving on the Advisory Board of the Academic and Corporate Relations Center for the University of Minnesota.  In 1999, Mr. Berning received the national Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award.
